Artist Statement:
I make work about living under systems that fail the people they are supposed to serve.
My work encompasses paintings and drawings of people, places, objects and symbols. I work mostly from photographs that I either find online or take myself. And I look for photos that speak to difficult, or charged, emotions that I'm having trouble processing. I use my own lived experience, and the shit I be going through, as insights into larger societal issues.
Working across figuration and abstraction, my process is about balancing energy. My compositions combine slow, methodical and precise gestures with more expressive mark making. I look for interactions that feel like my energy is at war with somebody else's systems.
